El Captian

n 1851 the Mariposa Battalion discovered what the native Americans called To-to-kon oo-lah" or "To-tock-ah-noo-lah" meaning Cheif. The Spanish translation was El Capitan and so it is called today as it rises 3600 feet above the Merced river and Valley floor. Always breathtaking and majestic it humbles us while giving such peace.
